Primary teachers do very little sitting, and when they do, they usually sit in the same "munchkin" chairs as their students so they can maintain maximum eye contact. They do a great deal of bending over students working at short desks or tables, so, unless you are an adept stooper, miniskirts and tight trousers are out. My one suggestion is that your clothing be machine-washable, as little people will frequently share messes with you. Taking Care of Your Feet There are still a few older schools where architects had the foresight and raw resources to build classrooms with wood floors.

Every principal has opinions about the characteristics that are most important in a teacher. You would be wise to know what the expectations are in your building. When setting your goals for this year with your principal, be open and honest about any feelings of inadequacy. Your principal will want to help you with an ongoing professional growth plan and can be your closest ally when difficulties arise. You are going to learn much more than you teach in the next few months. Be open to suggestions and at least give them a try.

I keep most of my students' records in these files, and the children are free to look into their own at any time.
