The interaction of collective modes, both with each other and with charged particles, results in a variety of highly nonlinear phenomena of great importance for fusion, astrophysical and nonneutral plasmas, as well as for accelerators and coherent radiation sources. In addition, data obtained for CO, a weak base, demonstrates a significant response increase upon exposure of this gas to an SnOx (hard acid) nanostructure coated surface whereas the data obtained for H2S (intermediate base) indicates a significant increase in response for an AuxO nanostructured oxide (weak acid) coated surface.
